These improvisations for the guzheng were recorded on a crisp day in May on a summit in a lovely and relatively unknown park near Guelph Lake in Ontario, and in Dundas Conservation Area.
There is nothing special about the unknown park except that it is a natural landscape in transition …. and it is one of the few truly quiet places in Guelph.
The open nature of the landscape also attracts all kinds of bird species.
For these improvisations I had a dual intention, and one was to reflect the character of the natural beauty, but also to create something completely new in each piece. The desire to create something new while at the same time giving it phrasing and structure is a messy intention.
Because of this these pieces don’t flow and have as good a phrasing as some of my previous works but I did somewhat succeed in my intention of playing something new.
I decided to link to a few of my other improvisations and make this post into my first album.
